It was just a year ago that Mark Hutson was one of the CWA Book of the Year Award winners for his powerfully written book So Costly a sacrifice, which tells the true story of the cost paid by one family during the Second World War. Hutson, a U.S. Army veteran and former drill instructor, came across the story while researching the Sullivan brothers, five brothers from Waterloo, Iowa who were among nearly 700 who died when the USS Juneau was torpedoed by Japanese forces at Guadalcanal in 1942.
Mark Knew one of the original Band of Brothers, medic Al Mampre. We geek out about The Band of Brothers, and an author scam alert!

I grew up with the Loop, attended Chicagofest shows, Steve Dahl's coho lip breakfast club. I was a devoted listener, and as a broadcaster took a great deal from Steve Dahl's innovation in the medium. Author and Eckhartz Press co-founder Rick Kaempfer discusses his seminal oral history The Loop Files: An Oral History of the Most Outrageous Radio Station Ever. The book is a media primer and a critical piece of Chicago history... Host WC Turck.

This show aims to tell a deeper narrative about the history of contemporary music. That would simply not be possible without an understanding of the pivotal role that the first supergroup, Cream, formed by Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker and Eric Clapton in 1966 had on music and the culture. The music that Cream innovated set the stage for the musical, ideological and social revolutions of the late 1960s. There is no way to over-estimate that influence. Fast forward 58 years and Bruce’s son Malcolm has released a star-studded tribute to Cream’s historic legacy, Heavenly Cream – An Acoustic Tribute to Cream.

Whether in his films or in his country/blues infused Americana-style music, in the view of this music aficionado, negative space is hardly an afterthought for Chicago singer/songwriter Ron Lazzeretti, but a notable characteristic. That is fully evident in Michael Keaton’s critically acclaimed directorial debut “The Merry Gentleman,” starring Keaton and Kelly Macdonald, which Lazzeretti wrote and produced. His new album is a strong collection of solid songs titled, Fat Head, Sunday Paper, which is out, officially, September 29th, 2023.
