Simply Music: Al Rose Again the Beginner

It is not so simple framing Al Rose’s music in terms of simple genres. Singer magazine, in, June 2003 put it this way “Listening to Al Rose is like standing in a huge gallery of abstract art. As you stare up at the paintings entitled, “Egg Me On”, “New Coat Of Paint”, and  “Random Hollow Diesel Train”, you can’t help but wonder, “Am I the only one here who gets, or doesn’t get this?” His music flows like a William Carlos Williams poem with buckets of Americana modernism, and with the lyrical non-sequiturs of a Collage by Chicago artist Tony Fitzpatrick. Al Rose’s latest album is Again the Beginner, which is described as an urgent set of 13 good and true songs, one man’s attempt to come to terms with modern times and that broken feeling everybody’s got in the pit of their stomach. Al is also the proprietor of Kopi Café in Chicago’s Andersonville neighborhood.
